Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS) is a non-profit organization established in 1974 by the late Chairman CHEY Jong-hyon of SK Group initially to promote national growth through academic development via cultivating world-class scholars.

As one of the leading non-profit academic and scholarship organizations in the country, KFAS has made remarkable contributions in expanding the pool of intellectual leaders. Over the past four decades, KFAS has supported approximately 750 brilliant Korean individuals to earn PhDs at world-class universities including Harvard University and Stanford University through its Overseas PhD Program.

In 2000, KFAS initiated an overseas support programs to promote academic exchange in the region, the first of which was the International Scholar Exchange Fellowship (ISEF) program.  Through ISEF, over 900 scholars from China and other Asian countries have so far been invited to conduct research in Korea for six months or one year. Also, KFAS established 18 Asia Research Centers at leading universities in China, Mongolia, Thailand, Vietnam Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Iran to facilitate funding of outstanding research. In addition, KFAS co-hosts international forums with leading Asian universities such as Beijing Forum with Peking University, Shanghai Forum with Fudan University, Asia Media Forum with Communication University of China, Tianjin Forum with Nankai University, Nanjing Forum with Nanjing University, Shandong Forum with Shandong University, Asia Research Forum with Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Confucianism Forum and Law Forum with Renmin University of China, Tumen River Forum with Yanbian University, International Conference on Southeast Asian Cultural Values with the Royal Academy of Cambodia, Hanoi Forum with Vietnam National University Hanoi, and Bangkok Forum with Chulalongkorn University.

KFAS has recently added knowledge sharing platforms to its diverse activities. Building upon its extensive global academic network, KFAS seeks to disseminate knowledge to a wider audience through multimedia platforms, inspirational “Dream Lecture” series offered to middle and high school students, “China Lecture” series, special lectures and symposia by prominent speakers. The contents are open to public and also made available online.

KFAS continues its commitment to contribute to global academic development and prosperity of human society. It remains diligent in its quest to become the nexus of knowledge networks, bringing together the brightest minds and future generations.
