Throughout the past century, Chulalongkorn University has served as the country’s main institution for higher education. It has educated over 300,000 quality graduates in various fields, many of whom have assumed positions of leadership in government, public administration and private organizations. Some of these graduates have become experts in global issues, such as the first Thai doctor of medicine to hold a position in the World Health Organization. A total of 191 outstanding researchers have received national awards from three main research institutes.

In its second century, CU is focusing on four strategies of development, namely human capital, knowledge & innovation, social transformation and global benchmarking. These strategies have contributed to the development of critical action platforms. Among others, it (i) takes note of and responds to social problems by working with all sectors of the national society, (ii) cooperates and collaborates with the government, public sectors, regional and international bodies to address the social and ecological issues facing the country, the region and the world in order to seek creative and practical solutions, and (iii) encourages action-oriented academic research efforts that will help build capacity, bring Thai and international research scholars and practitioners together to innovatively and collectively address regional and global issues in order to promote sustainable futures for all.

In living up to its vision, mission and values, CU has been globally recognized. It ranked as the top university in Thailand and listed in the top 50 Universities in Asia as per the QS World University Rankings 2018 (released on 28 February 2018). In addition, the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2017 has placed CU as the 2nd best green university in Thailand and 90th in the world.
Chulalongkorn University has grown into a leading global university with an Asian perspective and public purpose.
